Medical Diary

7/21/09 Visited my Oncologist last week. CBC numbers are normal. DNA test be back soon.

5/4/2009- Still get that little chill up my spine when the Onc’s number pops up on caller ID. BCR/ABL aka DNA test came back and no signs of CML still. I’m ready for 6 month check ups.

4/24/2009- Had the quarterly check up with Doc Frame. I am still 5′8″ and 156 lbs. Gotta love what the outdoors does for the body. CBC tests came back with everything normal. WBC was a little over 7,000 (normal is 4k-10k) which is the highest since I started Gleevec. DNA test should be back in a week or two. Everything seems to be functioning normal…..physically. ;-)

12/19/2008-Dr. Frame wanted blood work, liver tests and DNA tests done before Christmas. CBC came back with everything within normal range. Liver tests (CMP) will be back in a week and DNA tests will back in January. Everything came back normal….next appointment is April 17, 2009. I REALLY hope after this one I won’t be back for 6 months…..we’ll see!

10/31/08 – Went for the 3 month check up. CBC came back all good. DNA test should be back week of 11/17/08. Been having an increase in side effects from Gleevec lately. Causing me not to sleep well despite a good workout regimen. This too shall pass.

This part of the blog is for updates on my Leukemia and all the fun stuff associated with it.

A CBC in conjunction with my annual physical done in August indicated that everything is within normal ranges. WOW! Also, cholesterol and triglycerides are within normal ranges. Healthy as a horse!!!!!

5/2/2008 – My Onc received the last PCR test from the lab that was/is being used consistently. According to those results there is no sign of Leukemia. Same as January report. Seeking a second opinion to clarify why one lab says “all clear” and other shows signs of leukemia. Otherwise, all is well.

4/21/08 It appears that the tests look at different translocations?

PCR test results from 7/11/07  e13a2 0.057  e14a2 0.050 – Genzyme

results from 4/5/08    b2a2 0.064    b3a2 0.054 - LabCorp

On 10/8/07 I received my liver function tests.  Everything is right in the mid-range for normal results.  That’s more good news!  Initially the Gleevec is not effecting my liver function.  Amen!

This page is to provide medical info so that people who don’t visit the blog on a regular basis can be kept up to date on any news or updates.

As of my onc appt last week I no longer have to get weekly blood tests.  The test will now be monthly when I visit Dr. Frame.  My next appt. is Sept. 28 and he will perform a bone marrow test at that time to see if I am having a cytogenic response.  That basically means that I’m having a response on a cellular level.  I’ll keep looking for a link to some info that will help to make sense of it.  It will be a test in the arm so I don’t anticipate it being anywhere as painful as the aspiration from my tail bone.

Gleevec website

On July 12, 2007 I was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. There is good and bad about this Leukemia. Good thing is that there is a miracle drug called Gleevec and it has been very successful for very many people. Bad thing is, well, I have Leukemia.  But nothing has stopped me from living a full life yet and I don’t anticipate this will keep me from living a full and blessed life.
