Summer fun

June 29, 2008

It wasn’t until this morning that I realized just how long it’s been since I last posted. May 20 seems like months ago. All I can say is that I have been taking every opportunity to enjoy being outside. We had quite a stretch of 90+ degree heat in early June but we’re finally settling in to the mid 80’s with plenty of rain. I was in Pittsburgh Thursday night for the Pirates vs. Yankees until a tremendous storm rained it out. I spent the early part of the day with my ole friend Scott Eafrati. We were fraternity brothers in college and have kept in touch ever since. If you can believe this, Scott’s apartment caught fire twice in college and on both occassions he lived on my couch for extended periods. Anyway, we spent the day touring Pittsburgh, which was a fantastic reminder to me that the big city is not a place for Chipper. Always enjoy visiting with Scott, Megan and Mario. Fantastic people!

On Friday I stopped in Fairmont to visit KC for a while and then made my way to Weston. The Broken Wheel Campground outside of Weston, WV to be exact. Cap’n Greg took five of us out on Stonewall Jackson Lake in his luxurious pontoon boat. Of course, we had a traditional $1 for the biggest fish. I am happy to report that I landed two very big largemouth bass. The weather was absolutely PERFECT! We made it in after dark and I fished again Saturday morning at the campground pond and landed 5 very nice bass.

Saturday evening was great! The Wine and Jazz festival always has a tremendous turnout. It is big fun to walk amongst the stretched out concert go’ers and wine samplers and visit with old and new friends. I left about 9p because of the impending doomsday storm which, thankfully, weakened by the time it got to Charleston. No large hail or damaging wind here! That leaves us with this morning. Green tea, sunday papers and off to church shortly. Make it a great day! I surely will.
